BYOB - Bring Your Own Body
BYOB is a collaboration between myself and artist Claire Leith and was created as part of CLEAVE, a performing arts festival ran by MA Performance Making Students in 2021.

BYOB (bring your own body) was a performance art piece in which the materials of a party are deconstructed in mini rituals that both reminisce and mourn party culture. These materials consist of: Sound, Lights, Dress, Drink and Food. The show was created as a direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic and developed, quite literally, by the physical and psychological restrictions of a changed/changing world. Using a textual score of poetic listings of what we cannot do, the show aims to offer not only a gentle melancholy, but also grasp at optimism in its offerings of ‘but we can…’. BYOB is underscored by an alternative party playlist consisting of; Harold Budd, Briano Eno, BBC Birdsong and Torvil and Dean's Bolero, all masked behind classic disco album covers.
‘We can’t all dance together… but we can feel each other’s presence’. BYOB offers just one alternative to a party in the liminal space caused by the pandemic. Although a melancholic space, BYOB aims to offer hope and shine a light on the importance of the return of party culture.
